I play the videos back after sending to iTunes and Apple TV and they look crisp and clear, almost as good as my 1080i camcorder that cost $1100. For instance, walking gently even produces considerable camera shake and some type of image stabilization or motion correction from the software would be a great plus in the future. The convenience of having an HD camcorder in your shirt or pants pocket is the absolute best reason to buy this camcorder. This camcorder delivers surprising good image quality both in outdoor and indoor lighting and even in low light situations. I would definitely recommend this product for those looking for easy good quality HD video on the go without having to lug your big camcorder around. My other camcorder in a SONY HDR-HC3, an HDV tape based model which shoots slightly better quality at 1080i. The sound quality is also excellent. The main drawback is the lack of image stabilization which makes the video extremely sensitive to even the slightest motion.
The Flip Video takes great videos, sound is clear and it is easy to use. This HD Flip Video is tiny. It can fit into your purse and carry around with you all the time.
Charging is simple and I am very impressed with the downloading and editing software. I've ended up recording for 20 minutes in my pocket, then missing some shots when I thought I'd pressed it and the scene was already over before I realized it hadn't started recording. This is my first Flip video after starting with a really expensive Sony CX7 HD camera and realizing it was far more than I needed. It is very basic but very quick and easy to learn.The only drawback I have on this camera is that the "record/stop recording" button sometimes totally doesn't listen to what I'm telling it. I may return it for the same thing if I'm still within my time limit. The camera is nearly tiny. The texture is fine, the quality of the video and audio is adequate for my ameture needs of uploading to youtube and vimeo, and the battery life is acceptable.
On the down side, still seeing some artifacts and varieties in video quality. The software has been updated on the devices and is much more functional now as well. Definitely does better outside and does not handle motion all that well.With all the new mobile phones like the iPhone 3GS that handle video, I am not sure this is really all that relevant these days. I used the previous Flip device and was fairly happy with it, but this was a pretty worthy upgrade. The device is much faster, slimmer (easier to carry in your pocket, etc) and love the fact that you do not have to dig around for AA batteries all the time.
Super simple to use. Small & light, easy to keep in your purse. It takes very sharp video and sound.
